| COME ALONG AND
PUT A FACE TO A NAME!
We are in the process of planning the Annual Parish Meeting and we
would like to invite you to attend.
If you are interested in what goes on the village and would like to
find out more, we really think you would find this meeting worthwhile.
Hosted by the Parish Council, we invite topical speakers to come along
and tell us what they have been up to in the village. This year, in
addition to our usual speakers, the Norfolk Deaf Association will be
telling us about their work both throughout the county and in Mattishall
with their mobile mini-bus service which visits regularly. We have also
invited the Cricket Club (who recently benefited from a grant from us)
and hope to have our Highways Engineer, Jason Glasspoole, to tell us
what plans he has for our roads. You might have a question or two for
him…!
We also let you know what we have been up to over the past year and
what we hope to achieve over the coming year. There is the chance to
talk with councillors and speakers informally after the meeting has
finished.
The meeting will be held at the South Green Park Enterprise
Centre, 7.45 pm for 8 pm, Wednesday 19 May in the Enterprise Suite.
If you can only commit to one meeting a year to keep in touch with what’s
going on, come to this one. We don’t think you’ll regret
putting this date in your diary!
ADOPTION OF BT PHONE BOX
We have been offered the opportunity to purchase the very last red
phone box in the village for £1. The phone box, currently located
on Burgh Lane, has a very low usage so BT is very keen to sell it on
to the Parish Council in a national sell-off scheme. We recently made
the decision to ‘adopt’ the phone box as we felt it would
be a great shame to allow a piece of British Heritage disappear from
our village.
We hope to relocate it to another more prominent location in the village
(the telephony would be removed). We are looking for villagers’ideas:
where to locate it, what to use it for and how to smarten it up, so
if you would like to share your ideas with us, please get in touch with
the Parish Clerk.
SEARCH FOR NEW FOOTPATH WARDEN
Neville Frewer, who has been our Footpath Warden for 20 years, has
decided to step down so we are now looking for a villager to take on
this voluntary role. The Footpath Warden is responsible for keeping
some 22 miles of public footpaths open and walkable, liaising with local
landowners and Norfolk County Council’s Footpath Officer. Ideally,
we are looking for two volunteers as we think this role could be easily
shared. Please contact the Parish Clerk by 23 April if you think you
think you would be interested.
REGRETTABLE NEWS
Parish Councillor James Oakley sadly passed away on Sunday 28 March
after a brief illness. James was an enthusiastic and hardworking councillor
and will be sorely missed. We send our condolences to his family.
IMPROVEMENTS TO ALLOTMENTS
We recently had the help of a team from the Norfolk Probation Service
who carried out considerable clearance work at our
allotments. We think the area looks a lot neater now and we are looking
forward to seeing several new allotment holders enjoying their plots.
Unfortunately we do not have any vacant plots but if you are keen to
get digging this year contact our Clerk who can put you in touch with
East Tuddenham who have plots available now.
FUNDING FAIR – OPPORTUNITY FOR LOCAL GROUPS
Breckland Council is organising a funding fair to help voluntary and
community groups in the district secure money for their organisations.
The event will be held on Tuesday 18 May from 10 am to 3.30 pm, at the
Eco Tech Centre in Swaffham. For further information go to: http://www.breckland.gov.uk/news_funding_fair_opportunity.
NEW BUS SHELTERS FOR MATTISHALL
We recently made improvements to the bus stop on the north-side of
Dereham Road at Welgate which needed new metal panels. A similar bus
shelter has recently been installed on the opposite side of the road.
We are planning to install a new brick-built bus shelter near the village
green, although the application process is long. The County Council
will shortly be moving the most westerly bus stop on Dereham Road closer
to the junction with Rayners Way.
PARK WITH CARE
We have recently received a number of complaints from villagers about
neighbours parking across driveways, usually their own driveways, which
is causing difficulties for pedestrians to walk past. Please consider
pedestrian access before you park in this way.
RECENT OIL TANK THEFT
A Mattishall property was recently the target of oil theft. The local
Police believe this was a one-off but advise residents to be vigilant
and ensure that your tank has a lock on it.
